Can you hear Dollywood or any other Noise from Pigeon Forge?
Absolutley NOT!
Dollywood sits within her own little valley. During the day, while Dollywood is operating, every 30 minutes or so you can hear the Steam Train Whistle off in the distance, but not to the point of being loud or annoying. It is more of a smoky mountain feel! Aside from that, we are surrounded by woods so the only thing you will hear is the local wildlife going on about their day, birds chirping, squirells scampering, woodpeckers pecking, and on occasion a faint exotic tropical bird call from Parrot Mountain Park on the other side of the woods.
How close are the other cabins next to the Thistle Britches Cabin?
Thistle Britches sits on 1 full acre and is on the highest elevation of all the cabins on the mountain. The cabin is surrounded on 3 sides by woodlands, and open to the front view with various trees.
Here is the perspective sitting on the deck facing out towards the view from the cabin:
Right of the cabin:
To the right is 180 degrees of pure woodlands, that grade up 250 feet to the sloping ridge of the mountain, on the other side of the ridge is another 100 acres of pure woods. If you take the short trail up there you can see a 30 mile view of the Valley on the backside of our mountain.
Behind the cabin:
Behind the cabin is 100% woodlands. The ridge follows straight back from the side of the cabin towards the back about 500 foot until the ridge slopes down and ends at a point. I have walked back through the small trail on the ridge to the point and found an awesome 320 degree view of the valley and Smoky Mountains and LeConte. It is at this point you tell is where the indians and civil war soldiers would have used to spot game or use as a lookout point.
Left-Front Corner of the Cabin
This is the 1/2 of the acre we have that contains woodland, and small brush and gently slopes down 400 foot to the end of the road below, further down the slope is a cabin of which is well hidden and more than far enough away.
Right - Front Corner
The front of the cabin contains plenty of trees to block the neighboring cabin of which is about a football field length away, this is the closest cabin to ours which is a very good distance. This neighboring cabin also is set up that their deck is on the other side so any visitors there are on the other side of the cabin from us.
Will we wake our children when they are in bed?
The cabin has 3 levels.
First Floor > Media Room, 50" Sony, Xbox, DVD (play the childrens movies, Xbox, childrens shows, board games :) ) This room has 2 red micro fiber queen size sleeper sofas. The children usually sleep here if we have friends staying in the attached King Size bedroom. If it's just us, our kids sleep in this 1st floor master bedroom with the 36" TV and watch their kid shows/sleep over thing and then they are out. This floor is seperated from the top 2 floors by an enclosed stairway (keeping out the top two levels noise).
The 2nd level is the living room/dining/kitchen/master w/jacuzzi tub/fireplace/main deck/hot tub on the deck. This floor's leather couch, folds out into a queen sleeper as well. (if you want your children on the same floor with you). The second floor is open (aside from the bedrrom) to the game loft on the 3rd floor.
On the 3rd floor is the pool table, tv, darts, and sitting table. We positioned it this way because we could then stay up later, while kids were in bed, and enjoy the rest of the cabin/gameroom/hot tub/deck, while the kids where asleep downstairs undesturbed due to the stairwell. The gameroom is even farther from the 1st floor reducing any "wake up noise" while the adults were being adults.
